After running the same play for 14 years Cibola High can now claim a regional championship

Ohhh the gods are just.

Ten years ago, a tall and limber special teams receiver, with the name Nelson ironed on the back of his jersey, caught and ran a punt for 5 yards, enabling his team to take possession at their own 35 yard line. At the time, the yards seemed insignificant but little did he know the chain of events he would set off.

For the next decade, the classic football mantra of "seconds and inches" would be pound into the Cibola High Varsity team as they would increase that punt return to 6,7, and then 9 yards.

Then, the unexpected happened. During the 2007 season, a new Nelson took the field. Not a receiver like his brother before him but a lineman, solid and stout with a fire for plugging his holes and wearing his helmet on his tailpad. This new breed of Nelson would carry his line and ultimately his team to heights his brother never believed possible. On the 2nd of November, Nelson pushed and pulled his way to a Regional Championship and put the high school football world in flux.

At the moment, Yuma is still coming to grips with the crowning and the night is too young to tell how this is going to play out...

Great write-up... perhaps we could have a quote from Tanner - How does it feel to accomplish this? "Batman sleeps upside down - what's a diorama?" just kidding - I know he is no longer Ralph.
