FritoP's News Roundup

Since I ain't be gettin' no comments on my posts I am just going to do a mega post, with all the news i have gathered over the last few days. (don't worry it won't be too long) and i won't put any pictures because the sundancing indian didn't get no comments. So here wee go

1.COX OUT ON TOUR - to promote his new movie the most super talented Sir Dewey Cox (you didn't know he was knighted) will be playing select shows throughout this great country of ours in select cities of course. And for those of you who live in Arizona you are not included in those select cities. LINK

2. THIS GUY IS EVERYWHERE- the man who wants to bring us TV a la carte, and promote a greater and more open mass media is being accuse of abusing his power. FCC chairman abusing his power and not censoring anything, that should be a good thing. The irony of all this is that democrats are behind the congressional investigation. Funny but I feel that "Chairman Martin" (as he prefers to be called at FCC headquarters) represents me more than Congress or the consumer groups and media companies who are calling for his head. In fact have the Democrats , consumer groups or media companies ever represented me well. NO. LINK

3. AGAIN I AM THE FIRST TO POST THIS - tom petty plays the super bowl, now i am pretty sure that all of the writers on this site are fans of petty, fans of the super bowl. And also in case you retards didn't know it takes place in Arizona. (by the way in other slightly related music news, Garth brooks sold out 5 consecutive nights at the Staples Center in one hour, amazing). Prince will probably be the best ever Half Time show but a little good ol rockin never hurt no one. link

4. KATTAN BLANK MOVIE. thank goodness the WB CW sucks because the turned down a potentially hit show that I never would have watched and more than likely would have been toned down for the crappy network. Amy Sedaris, Chris Kattan are starring in an indie film that was formerly a tv pilot that got dumped. THe film is written and direted by the daughter of Diane Von Furstenburg (fashion designer) and Barbara Bach (hello!!!!!) and step-father Ringo.
Oh yeah it is about boarding school girls, but who cares with coked out queero KATTAN and Jerri you got a winner LINK

5. JAY ONLY PAYS A WEEKS SALARY. after my post earlier this week, and all it gets him to do is pay one weeks salary, 2009 can't come soon enough LINK

6. OSCAR WATCHING. leading oscar watcher David Poland put in his 50 cents worth on the film ATONEMENT. It doesn't look good for Focus Features, but then again apparently someone got the balls to compare it to DR. ZHIVAGO. Whoever made that comparison should be fired. Anyways this is good news for the Coens and PTA because I was worried that this drama might push them all down a notch, hey we might even see ole JESSE JAMES show up but unfortunately it means we will see that Sean Penn lack of responsibility film INTO THE WILD get some more credit, by the way he dies at the end. LINK

Six is enough, there is lots of stuff to comment about, it is very easy to comment if you don't have a google or a blogger account you can quickly register for one and then procede to comment. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO READ MY POSTS IF YOU DO NOT COMMENT ON THEM!!!!!

Apparently Leno is a Dick, WHo KNew I did

I think we all did
well all those sorry suckers who were forced to work with the unfunny Leno for the last few years have been FIRED given the xmas bonuses and sent home. quote from variety

"We haven't heard from him since the second or third day of the strike," the former staffer said. "He called on speakerphone while we were in our daily meeting and said, 'Don't look for other jobs , no one's going to lose their house, we'll get though this.' Two weeks ago, we got the heads up that we had two more weeks (of pay) and that's it. Everyone wondered, 'Is Jay going to come through?' And nothing happened. Conan makes less and he said, 'I'm going to pay for my people.' "

Conan paying his people means that they can outlast all the crap the dies off first, so i guess that is good news, as long he doesnt give no writers no money.

20 Million bucks THAT IS CALLED GREED

In the LA times this morning a report on the goings on of the strike talks. The guys with the money offered and the guys that work for them denied (actually it is not the writers but the labor leaders that represent the writers) Over 20 million dollars. When you talking the difference between 151 million and 130 million that is called GREEDY. I wish the labor negotiators would let these people get back to work, even if all there shows do suck. But they get paid the longer this takes (*oh you didn't know that) plus the get their names in the paper a lot more.
Quote from the times

"The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said it was willing to offer $130 million in extra pay over the life of the proposed three-year deal. The offer is "above and beyond the more than $1.3 billion writers already receive each year," the alliance said in a statement.

The Writers Guild of America countered with a lengthy response, saying the producers' proposal only dealt with advertising-supported programs streamed for free and jurisdiction over shows created for the Web "and it amounts to a massive rollback."

The writers said their plan, also presented Thursday, would cost producers $151 million over three years.

"That's a little over a 3 percent increase in writer earnings each year, while company revenues are projected to grow at a rate of 10 percent," the statement said. "We are falling behind."

TV Review: Tom Thumb in the Land of the Giants (1999)

While on vacation, I was introduced to a show on TLC called "Little People: Big World" I have come to learn that it is quite popular and everybody but me is acquainted with it. I have to tell you, this show is incredible! It mixes all the best parts of reality tv, drama, road trips, fantasy and sci-fi! TLC was playing a marathon, so I got a good dose of the show... I am hooked!
To catch you up if you haven't seen the show, this is a family promulgated by two midges - their first two kids are twins, one normal size, and one adorable. They also have two more regular size children.... making for all kinds of hilarious hi jinks!
There are so many special moments contained in the few episodes I watched, I don't know where to start! The family takes a trip to Sedona to view the red-rocks, and the mother wanted to take a picture of the family. Mom backs out on a ledge to get everyone in and... wooosh! a hawk swooped down and snatched poor mommy off the rock and carried her to its nest far atop a majestic outcrop! How dramatic! Not to worry, her adorable soccer-playing son coaxed a passing eagle to land and fly him up to the hawk's perch to rescue her!
If you have seen the show, the father has some leg problems and his lack of mobility and constant pain are truly heartbreaking. But all that gloom just melts away when you witness Dad take some balloons from a clown at a birthday party and float off into the sunset! Cursing and spitting while his teeny-tiny crutches fall back to earth... The normal size son was quick on the job, and anticipating such a development - had brought his BB gun. A few well-placed shots brought Poppa gently back to earth (legs a-danglin').

Like I said before - there is so much to this show, a short column does it no justice. I could go on and on about the time Father tried to take his car keys back from his son and was thwarted by the old move of holding his forehead and keeping him at arm's length while his chubby little arms swung away in frustration.... Or the time "Adorable" went to a magical land full of people JUST LIKE HIM!!! OMG!! HOW CUTE!! They called it a LPC (Little People Convention) but I swear it looked like Las Vegas. He managed to get his first kiss in an elevator at Circus Circus... I am glad I wasn't waiting there when the door opened! I would have sprayed my Long Island Iced Tea all over the adorable little lovebirds!
You should check out this wonderful show! and here's hoping they don't run into any critters on that farm of theirs!

Cinematic Titanic

It’s been just amazing the last few years: what with MST3K being honored as a top 25 science fiction show and top 25 “cult” show by TV Guide, and, most notably, in September being listed as one of the “Top One Hundred TV Shows Ever” by TIME – whew! Never saw it coming. Even mo-better are the really nice people that I’ve met who’ve had, and still have, great experiences watching horrendously great movies along with me and my funny friends. Thanks for mentioning it, thanks for keeping the dream alive, and thanks for buying the DVDs. It’s all been strange and mysterious and lovely, and it makes me want to do it all over again. And now, almost 20 years later, I am. I’ve decided, in collaboration with the other bold souls who “started it all,” to do a new project that is strong enough for our diehard audience, and also gentle and easy to swallow for those that are new to movie riffing. Wait for it….wait for it…. meet Cinematic Titanic!

The Best TV Show We Will Never See

So every once in a while the BBC produces a TV show that has the depth and creativity to attract American audiences. Of course, American audiences can't usually understand British wit or language, so only the initial premise and character-types are kept and the plot is re-worked to be able to handle the audiences who still watch "Two and a Half Men" and "The King of Queens." The most obvious example of this phenomenon is "The Office." An incredible success by NBC that added a slapstick feeling to an otherwise tongue in cheek BBC script. With the number of Emmy's that "The Office" has garnered, you would think that the major networks would be standing in line to buy the next big BBC score.

In 2006, the BBC produced a show called "The Thick of It." A mock-umentary type show chronicalling the day to day life of the behind the scenes players in British parliament. As far as character development, there is nothing that does it better than this. The series begins with the firing of the Minister of Social Affairs and the reappointment of a placeholder figure while the party figures out what they are going to do. Watching the new minister Hugh Abbott drown in his position is truly a lesson in the uncomfortable comedy that the original BBC "The Office" perfected. The series is epic, poignant, and as deeply hilarious as anything the BBC has produced to date. So naturally, it is a shoe in for American adpation...

Enter Michael Hurwitz. Creator and writer for the critically acclaimed but never watched until the DVD came out "Arrested Development." Not a stranger to Emmy awards himself, he obtains the rights to the little known BBC series, "The Thick of It." Filmed in the same mock-umentary feel as the "Arrested Development," Hurwitz should have instant credibility in the genre and in case anyone has any hesitations, he secures a director with a similar feel for the mock-umentary flair, a little actor/director you might have heard of called Christopher Guest.

So you are a network bigwig and you hear that Hurwitz and Guest are collaborating on a script based on American politics (keep in mind, we are in a prolonged election cycle), would you even have to read the script before you sign up?

Well its been passed up... If you get the time download the British series by bittorrent, its worth it.
