To Satisfy TRN's Man-Crush

If you hadn't noticed, TRN is a devoted groupie of Dback nobody Micah Owings. He must be busy this morning, but I am sure this news will get him all titillated...

Micah Owings' bat could get a little more play next season, and we're not just talking about pinch-hitting appearances. Owings, who last season made 27 starts out of the Diamondbacks' rotation and posted a 4.30 ERA, could find his way onto the field, perhaps at first base. "It's potentially, depending on how our roster looks, an option," manager Bob Melvin said Tuesday during a Q&A session with reporters.

Its not very becoming for a married fatherof two to drool all over another man, but what can you do? He is family. LINK THIS

Andruw Jones to the Dodgers

Reports are that Andruw Jones has agreed to a 2-year deal to play centerfield for the Los Angeles Dodgers. LINK THIS. Dodger fandom won't let me say anything other than this is a great signing. One year does not a career make, and for some reason he was crap in 2007. Normally, bats come to Dodger Stadium to die, career 300 hitters sign and next thing you know-they slump themselves right out of baseball. Something tells me that Jones, one of the best young players in the history of the game, is aiming to put up monster numbers for 2 years in search of a 5 or 6 year mega-contract. Next step? Two moves would make the Dodgers favorites to win the NL. First, trade for Scott Rolen. His value is low, and I suspect he can be had for two top-tier minor leaguers. As always, you try to throw Juan Pierre in on any deal you make. His signing was a disaster, and you have to get rid of him somehow. Next, you sign that Japanee pitcher everybody is after. Give Kuroda 10 mill a year and see if he can get you 10-12 wins as your fifth starter. See! Its so simple!

FritoP's News Roundup

Since I ain't be gettin' no comments on my posts I am just going to do a mega post, with all the news i have gathered over the last few days. (don't worry it won't be too long) and i won't put any pictures because the sundancing indian didn't get no comments. So here wee go

1.COX OUT ON TOUR - to promote his new movie the most super talented Sir Dewey Cox (you didn't know he was knighted) will be playing select shows throughout this great country of ours in select cities of course. And for those of you who live in Arizona you are not included in those select cities. LINK

2. THIS GUY IS EVERYWHERE- the man who wants to bring us TV a la carte, and promote a greater and more open mass media is being accuse of abusing his power. FCC chairman abusing his power and not censoring anything, that should be a good thing. The irony of all this is that democrats are behind the congressional investigation. Funny but I feel that "Chairman Martin" (as he prefers to be called at FCC headquarters) represents me more than Congress or the consumer groups and media companies who are calling for his head. In fact have the Democrats , consumer groups or media companies ever represented me well. NO. LINK

3. AGAIN I AM THE FIRST TO POST THIS - tom petty plays the super bowl, now i am pretty sure that all of the writers on this site are fans of petty, fans of the super bowl. And also in case you retards didn't know it takes place in Arizona. (by the way in other slightly related music news, Garth brooks sold out 5 consecutive nights at the Staples Center in one hour, amazing). Prince will probably be the best ever Half Time show but a little good ol rockin never hurt no one. link

4. KATTAN BLANK MOVIE. thank goodness the WB CW sucks because the turned down a potentially hit show that I never would have watched and more than likely would have been toned down for the crappy network. Amy Sedaris, Chris Kattan are starring in an indie film that was formerly a tv pilot that got dumped. THe film is written and direted by the daughter of Diane Von Furstenburg (fashion designer) and Barbara Bach (hello!!!!!) and step-father Ringo.
Oh yeah it is about boarding school girls, but who cares with coked out queero KATTAN and Jerri you got a winner LINK

5. JAY ONLY PAYS A WEEKS SALARY. after my post earlier this week, and all it gets him to do is pay one weeks salary, 2009 can't come soon enough LINK

6. OSCAR WATCHING. leading oscar watcher David Poland put in his 50 cents worth on the film ATONEMENT. It doesn't look good for Focus Features, but then again apparently someone got the balls to compare it to DR. ZHIVAGO. Whoever made that comparison should be fired. Anyways this is good news for the Coens and PTA because I was worried that this drama might push them all down a notch, hey we might even see ole JESSE JAMES show up but unfortunately it means we will see that Sean Penn lack of responsibility film INTO THE WILD get some more credit, by the way he dies at the end. LINK

Six is enough, there is lots of stuff to comment about, it is very easy to comment if you don't have a google or a blogger account you can quickly register for one and then procede to comment. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO READ MY POSTS IF YOU DO NOT COMMENT ON THEM!!!!!

From My Cold Dead Hand... A Machete?

I am sure you have heard the story of the NFL player shot in his home on Monday night, and how he passed away this morning. As he struggled for his life, some interesting details began to leak out. It turns out that Sean Taylor's home had been broken into a few weeks before - nothing much was taken, but the intruder left a knife in the bedroom. On the night of the shooting, he and his baby's mama heard an intruder in the house. They awoke, and Taylor grabbed a machete he keeps near the bed for protection. He approached the bedroom door and said something, only to be blasted right through the bedroom door... If you wonder (like I did) about why he had a machete in his bedroom, well.... It turns out that Mr. Taylor had an incident a few years back over some stolen ATVs and he "brandished" an AK-47. So to sum up, somebody attempts to rob this man, and he protects himself and his property by pulling a weapon. I know the name "AK-47" scares people, but there are tens of thousands of legal AK-47 owners across the nation.

Of course, federal prosecutors throw a shit-fit and after two years, all they can do is mandate that he not be allowed to possess a firearm. That leads to him standing in his own bedroom with what amounts to a limp dick, attempting to defend himself against an assuredly illegal weapon. This is scary, and I don't doubt that he being young black and rich attributed to his being denied the right to defend himself. This story gets me angry, and should be cause for some reflection over the tragedies this year that could have been prevented by a simple, honest man with a well-kept sidearm. The one shining example remains the Trolley Square shooting in Salt Lake... Perhaps the moral of this story is that gun-owners everywhere should take great care of their right to bear arms - you never know when your baby's mama's life depends on it.

The Kitty's Got Claws

Being new at this game, I am beginning to realize there are certain subjects, that when you write about them your fingers just dance over the keyboard - lightly tapping out your thoughts with glee. I can tell the "University of Arizona" is going to be one of those subjects.
The UofA pussycats roared last night, throttling the Oregon Ducks down in the town with no sidewalks. 34-24 was the final score but it wasn't that close. Truly one of the biggest wins in school history, the Wildcats dominated on both sides of the ball-forcing turnovers and running at will. The Cats benefitted from the early injury to heisman frontrunner Dennis Dixon as Oregon was forced to go to Ryan Leaf's kid brother (no joke) and he performed as expected - terribly.

The irony is this triumph only served to catapult the Arizona State Sun Devils into first place in the Pac-10 with only the speed-bump Trojans left on the road to Pasadena. The dream season continues for ASU, with their arch-rivals playing the role of hitman... right between the eyes. It was quite a scene in Phoenix as Sun Devil fans went to their phones in the 2nd Quarter-making plans for the Rose Bowl. I don't know if I should laugh or feel sorry for UofA. A great victory, but hardly a reason to celebrate.

Oh Yeah... GO DEVILS

Okay, Just to Balance Out the Recent Football-Homo Stories

From Deadspin... Like Indy said - "I want that"
athletes have great lives
You Have To Triple Team Josh McNeil
Tennessee center Josh McNeil has a history of problems with alcohol, including a public intoxication and underage drinking charge that kept him out of five spring practices, quite the punishment. But after an incident this weekend, we now know the truth: Josh McNeil doesn't have an alcohol problem ... he has an alcohol gift!
After a possible burglary at McNeil's apartment, campus police found ... three women in his bed.
UT center Josh McNeil was quizzed by police about a broken window at his apartment and the three intoxicated women in his bed. McNeil, a junior from Collins, Miss., was not charged by police investigating reports of a burglary at McNeil's apartment, but his three female visitors didn't fare as well. The three women were charged with underage consumption of an alcoholic beverage.
We are so tired of the police accosting perfectly innocent, hammered athletes when they're simply trying to have a foursome in their dorm rooms. What country are we supposed to be living in? This is America, goddammit!

Quail Season report

I slipped away yesterday afternoon to hunt some Quail and was pleased to find that game and fish reports of a below average season for the central Arizona region were incorrect, or I was just fortunate to find two coveys.

The first instance we (a friend from Flagstaff) and I jumped the covey in the same spot I had found them two year's ago. I harvested four from that group and left several others for another day.

The second covey was much higher that where I had found them in the past, and by the time I ascended to where my buddy jumped them, I was preparing for a heart attack. Nevertheless, I brought one of them back with me to feast upon, for a total a five for the afternoon. Five for an afternoon hunt is good in my book any season.

I understand that Kathy found a shotgun to give Wade for his birthday, does this mean we'll hunt over the Christmas break?

After running the same play for 14 years Cibola High can now claim a regional championship

Ohhh the gods are just.

Ten years ago, a tall and limber special teams receiver, with the name Nelson ironed on the back of his jersey, caught and ran a punt for 5 yards, enabling his team to take possession at their own 35 yard line. At the time, the yards seemed insignificant but little did he know the chain of events he would set off.

For the next decade, the classic football mantra of "seconds and inches" would be pound into the Cibola High Varsity team as they would increase that punt return to 6,7, and then 9 yards.

Then, the unexpected happened. During the 2007 season, a new Nelson took the field. Not a receiver like his brother before him but a lineman, solid and stout with a fire for plugging his holes and wearing his helmet on his tailpad. This new breed of Nelson would carry his line and ultimately his team to heights his brother never believed possible. On the 2nd of November, Nelson pushed and pulled his way to a Regional Championship and put the high school football world in flux.

At the moment, Yuma is still coming to grips with the crowning and the night is too young to tell how this is going to play out...

But They Make Such Wonderful Cameras...

From the Smoking Gun:

Exhibit B: Maria Sharapova's Crotch
Lawsuit: Japanese CEO had yen for photographing women's privates
NOVEMBER 1--A top advertising executive who allegedly enjoyed photographing the crotches of unsuspecting females, snapped a close-up shot of Maria Sharapova's nether region as the tennis star posed for a Canon camera ad, according to a new lawsuit. In the complaint, filed yesterday in U.S. District Court in New York, Steve Biegel charges that he was fired by Dentsu Holdings, the giant Japanese advertising agency, after complaining about the photographic hobby of Toyo Shigeta, the firm's CEO, who allegedly distributed the Sharapova photo to subordinates. Included as an exhibit to Biegel's lawsuit, which alleges a variety of other lewd behavior on the part of Shigeta and other Dentsu executives, is the purported photo of Sharapova, which can be seen below. The image, Biegel contends, was surreptitiously snapped by Shigeta in April 2005 during a break in the filming of a Canon commerical at a tennis center in Key Biscayne, Florida. According to Biegel, a Dentsu creative director who oversaw the Canon ad campaign, Shigeta used a telephoto lens to take the "crotch shot." In fact, Biegel alleges, Shigeta "proudly" gave him an electronic copy of the Sharapova photo (which is now Exhibit B in the federal discrimination lawsuit). Biegel contends that while Sharapova was unaware that she was being photographed by Shigeta, he and the athelete's makeup woman realized what was going on. Through a Dentsu spokesperson, Shigeta denied taking the Sharapova photo. The ad firm branded Biegel's allegations "outrageous" and said it would file a counterclaim for libel and fraud. Jace Plays Ball

Maybe I am just hoping that Ace with a J will log in, take offense and launch a blistering defense of high-school football - or maybe I just can't resist. (Deadspin)

High School Football: Gayer Than Gay?
This isn't easy to say so we're just going to say it: According to a new survey, one third of former high school football players have had sexual relations with other men. That's according to a new study to be published in the Journal of Sex Roles, which I totally just read by accident, and that's the truth.
Sociologist Dr. Eric Anderson, who is credited with being the first openly gay high school coach during his tenure at Huntington Breach High in the early nineties, conducted the study that suggests that "society's increasing open-mindedness about homosexuality and decreasing stigma concerning sexual activity with other men had allowed sportsmen to speak more openly about these sexual activities." It found that over one third of the men interviewed admitted to having contact with other men whether with women present or alone.
This raises many disturbing questions for all the former high school football players out there. Is it now a little uncomfortable to look back on all those pats on the butt, locker room towel antics and gay sex in the showers without thinking that they had some hidden, Freudian meaning?

All Of A Sudden, "Jace" Makes Sense

This is something I saw on Deadspin. I gotta admit - I don't think this is true, but pretty funny nonetheless...

Kentucky Wildcats
In The '60s, The Wildcats Knew How To Party
Shannon Ragland, a Louisville-based self-published author, has written a new book claiming the a Kentucky-Xavier football game in 1962 was "fixed." Everyone's denying it, of course, but that's not even the best part. According to the book, old Kentucky players would
receive blow jobs from dudes for cash.

According to Ragland's account, some UK players in the early 1960s became involved with two gay men who had moved to Lexington around 1959. The two men were luring players to their Lakewood Drive residence with offers of free food, alcohol and parties even before Bradshaw became coach, the book says. Eventually, according to Ragland, some players submitted to gay oral sex in exchange for money, receiving $200 or more for each act. At some point, Ragland writes, movie star Rock Hudson became involved through his friendship with one of the party hosts. (Hudson died of complications from AIDS in 1985.)

Sunday Showdown

Five days and counting…Colts are 7-0 and New England is 8-0. Someone is going to get their first loss of the season this Sunday.

Who will win? My pick, obviously, is Tom Brady and the Patriots. Not only does Brady have three Super Bowl rings and is on track to break Manning’s touchdown pass throwing record, he also knows how to take a heck of a photo (couldn't resist).

As for the rest of the team, they have the best offense of the league and their defense is solid and should not be overlooked. This Sunday they face their toughest defensive opponent by far this season; not to mention, Peyton Manning, who has quarterbacking flowing through his veins…can they do it?

Sports: I'm Sorry but Byrnes isn't as Annoying as Papelbon

I'm pretty sure everyone was annoyed about Byrnes pre-game hosting but this dude has to be a thousand times more annoying. Who the hell does the riverdance? Didnt that joke die when it was used for NFL touchdown dances?
