Fire reported inside ASU's Memorial Union
Tempe firefighters fought a fire in the Memorial Union building at Arizona State University's Tempe campus Thursday. “There's tons of smoke everywhere,” junior Taylor Hubbard, 20, said.The fire was classified a 2-alarm fire, with several fire engines and firefighters on the scene.
The Memorial Union was evacuated shortly after the fire started around 12:55 p.m.The Tempe Fire Department set up a command post on the northeast side of the Memorial Union to battle the blaze.“It's really bad,” Hubbard said. “Nobody was really fazed at first but once they realized how bad it was they were shocked.”Hubbard said that many students were on campus watching the thick plumes of smoke rise into the air.Authorities were unsure of how the fire was started.
