Visual Perfection

You go back and look at presidents that we elected prior to TV, and presidents we elected after TV, and you will notice a huge difference. Do you think a bloated president could win? We had plenty of fat-guy presidents. Do you think one could get elected today? There's not a prayer! ....The campaign is Mitt Romney versus Hillary Clinton in our quest in this country for visual perfection, hmm?

MOVIE REVIEWS - 2 FOR 1 SPECIAL!!!

I had the opportunity to pull a doubleheader on Saturday, and had the pleasant surprise of seeing 2 very good films... (To be honest, my lover chose the movies - and she did a very good job. Her track record isn't perfect, but whose is? Remember, I had the privilege of watching "National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon" and Alec Baldwin's "The Shadow" in the theater. So I know a little about bad choices)

No Country For Old Men: I have been waiting on two of our reporters to get off their Hillary Duffs and give me some feedback on the film that is likely to garner the Coen brothers a nom or two - but to no avail. Ol' Blood and Guts' mother died (he would have reviewed the book) and who wants to leave the best Coen in years to a mungchung who names himself FritoP.? No Country has already received the highest praise from critics - and while the film is reminiscent of some of their earlier work, watching this movie is a truly unique experience. If you have seen Fargo and Blood Simple, you know the Brothers have a thing for hard-boiled crime stories replete with unsterilized violence and uh.... lots of blood. The plot is a simple one, drug deal gone bad - innocent bystander takes off with the money, and a psychopath is tasked with getting the money back. Obviously inspired by their professional idolatry of Milius, the Coens trot out an impressive array of weapons and the bloodletting commences. For me, the brilliance of this flick was its ability to maintain an incredible amount of tension over the span of two hours - without resorting to outrageous bullet spraying shoot-em-up scenes. The border town setting brought a great deal - from the beautiful desert scenery, to the lawlessness of the frontier, to the constant danger and fragility of life. The acting is beyond excellent. I can't believe how much I like Josh Brolin - give me another actor who in the space of one year has cranked out three unforgettable roles like Brolin has in Planet Terror, American Gangster and No Country. Not only has he done well, who else has worked with RobRod, Ridley and the Coens? You will hear the most talk about Javier Bardem - and rightfully so... He is everything you expect.... unless you want a foaming at the mouth psycopath. Calm, methodical, sinister, insane, indifferent, single-minded, obsessed and effective.

Control: I was taken to this movie without any idea what it was about (sometimes the best way to go). I guess I had been lazy, and to be honest it blended in with the countless other black and white indie movies that come and go so fast every year... It is a biopic of Ian Curtis, the lead singer for English misery rock band Joy Division. Okay so misery rock isn't fair, but if you don't know them - trust me they are anything but bubbly. Being a New Order fan, I know the story has a happy ending but the majority of the film is spent chronicling the misery of a 23 year old famous rock star (heard this one before?). Yeah, we have all seen the rocker suicide bit before, but Ian isn't bedeviled by hard drugs - it was just way too much for this 23 year old to deal with. The actor that plays Ian Curtis does an excellent job... One of those performances that will taint my memory forever - I will always think he is Ian Curtis (It helps that he hasn't done anything else). A little bit o' research tells me Sam Riley was in a band before he began acting (shocking, him being British and all). Sarcasm aside, you can tell he knows his way around the stage - I found myself wanting him to perform again and again. Mesmerizing.

Ugh Somebody Took My Idea!!!

I am not going to be home for Christmas until this weekend... and my Dad doesn't have any reindeer... but still - this is criminal and clever all at the same time!

Police: Coach Turned Holiday Displays Into Porn
Group Reportedly Put Reindeer In Sexual Positions

MARIETTA, Ga. -- A coach faces charges and awaits a court date after police said he led a group of students on a lewd Christmas prank in Marietta.
Police said John Hayes, 46, loaded several middle schoolers into the back of his pickup truck, and drove them around after dark as they damaged Christmas displays.
The group even made several homeowners’ displays X-rated, police said, including placing reindeer in sexual positions. LINK

I heart Tom Brady

Fast Food Nation

I just finished watching one of the worst movies ever (talk about wasting an afternoon off from work). Greg Kinnear, Patricia Arquette, Bruce Willis is in it among others: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460792/maindetails#comment.

I won't go into details, not worth the trouble. The funniest part of the movie, no, not the cow-killing scene at the end....Avril Lavine plays a college student.

Strike Site Comparisons

After hearing about the lame mock amptp.com site (trust me it isn't funny, so don't waste your time because I already did it for you) I decided to view the real amptp.org site. Not only is it more interesting than the lame jokes it is also a far better designed site than the wga.org site. Also the AMPTP site is far easier to navigate and search for facts. If this were an election the AMPTP would have my vote because I gave up trying to figure out what it was the WGA's facts were. One page on the AMPTP site that I really apreciated was the Dollars & Sense page. I encourage anyone to find a page on the wga.org site comparable to the simplicity of this page. The problem is, since this is not an election no one will visit the AMPTP site but instead visit the amptp.com site (which like I said is not funny). I will post the link for the AMPTP.org site once more here

Fact quote "In 2006, the average MPAA film cost over $100 million to produce, market and distribute in the domestic market, and approximately another $40 million if released overseas."

Again this is how much it costs and has nothing to do with the paycheck that the "Moguls" make. In fact that $140 million has to do more with the talent and their paychecks.

Huckabee Hucks Up?

In order to win, Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee could no longer afford to sit on the sidelines and rely on the "nice guy, harmless" vote. As his numbers begin to rise he has to take steps to be taken seriously and look to engage the national frontrunners in some kind of debate that will distinguish him from the rest of the pack. Instead, he takes a cheap shot at Romney, in an effort to attract the uninformed masses that populate certain segments of the Republican Party. I think this is big mistake on his part, and if he continues to snipe at those who can win, his campaign will derail and he will be on the outside looking in once the primaries move west. Come on, Huck - give us something to believe in other than distrusting Mormons! There is plenty of that going around.

Huckabee Questions Mormons' Belief

Dec 11 10:23 PM US/EasternBy LIBBY QUAIDAssociated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) - Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee, an ordained Southern Baptist minister, asks in an upcoming article, "Don't Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers?"
The article, to be published in Sunday's New York Times Magazine, says Huckabee asked the question after saying he believes Mormonism is a religion but doesn't know much about it. His rival Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, is a member of the Mormon church, which is known officially as the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The authoritative Encyclopedia of Mormonism, published in 1992, does not refer to Jesus and Satan as brothers. It speaks of Jesus as the
son of God and of Satan as a fallen angel, which is a Biblical account. LINK

Letdown

Being a proud member of the "Indy" generation (Post Star-Wars) I am a bit offended by this piece of crap poster they have just released for the new Indy flick. It looks amateurish and animated....

My Niece the Vet

I know it is a well-worn pastime to brag about your children or nieces and nephews about how smart they are, how fast they are progressing, etc...

Well, allow me to indulge myself. I have the most wonderful little niece named Eiley- red-headed and adorable. IF she had turned out to be a dummy, no worries... She is cute enough to make it anywhere! Eiley lives out in the country, and even though it is 2007 and her father makes a good living, sometimes you have to learn how to do things on your own. Eiley is not able to communicate yet, but she loves to watch Animal Planet - who knew she was learning at the same time?! Eiley has plenty of animals around her, and it has become pretty obvious that she will be a veterinarian. Eiley has been placed in charge of the family's two St. Bernard dogs, and knowing the mountain life, it was only a matter of time before the girl dog got knocked up! Above is a picture of my two-year old niece checking the dog's dilation and preparing to deliver puppies! Can you see how excited she is! We are so proud of her, and I defy anyone to give me another example of a toddler delivering puppies!

RonPaul Duped!

Oh this is hilarious. First, explain to me why Ron Paul supporters are buying a blimp, and why isn't he stopping them? Second, why weren't they suspicious when they actually received $400,000 in pledges FROM RONPAUL SUPPORTERS!!! Alarm bells should have been going off all over, but RonPaul people everywhere seem to be caught up in the Perot populist fantasy.

Ron Paul Blimp Project Pleads for Funds
December 06, 2007 - FreeMarketNews.com

A plea has gone up on a website dedicated to the rental of a blimp to promote the presidential hopes of limited-government candidate Ron Paul (R-Tex). The site can be seen here: RonPaulBlimp.comThe statement reads:"We must receive $200,000 in sponsorships by midnight on Friday for the blimp to be in Boston by December 15th! Please sponsor the Ron Paul Blimp Tour now!"As of the morning of December 6th, the site stated it had received $119,775 in donations plus $5,500 in wire transfer purchases. While $125,000 is fairly substantial, at least another $75,000 must be raised if the private project is to meet its goals. This is a far cry from the $400,000 plus that had supposedly been pledged for the blimp, much of which has not yet been collected and is thought now to be questionable at best. There are even Internet reports that the project come under sustained attack by those wishing to inflate the totals with an eye toward damaging its credibility. Some of the e-mails addresses reveal derogatory sentiments, according to sources, but it was presumed several days ago that the majority of pledges were sound.

Kyl Is Number 2

Longtime Arizona Republicans will attest to this little secret.... Jon Kyl is not only the better senator from the State of Arizona, but he may be the best in the country. Despite his latest close-shave election, Kyl has an admirable record of service and adherence to conservative ideals. His name is always mentioned when high-level positions are open, yet he remains serving in the national shadow of McCain. Its nice to see him getting some recognition and added responsibility. Today he was elected Minority Whip, the #2 spot in the Republican Senate leadership. Its worth mentioning that AZ can now boast one of the most distinguished and powerful Senate delegations in the country. LINK

Rush Gushes Mitt

Rush is in the midst of gushing all over this morning's Mitt Romney "I Am Mormon Hear Me Roar" speech. In Rush's words, "Romney is taking the long-view" of American history - who we are, how we got here; and the vital role religion played in that journey. The speech seems to be a success, but time will tell if it achieves iconic status and the turning point in Romney's campaign.

All of this makes me think of a line from The Departed ...

Frank Costello: I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me. Years ago we had the church. That was only a way of saying - we had each other. The Knights of Columbus were real head-breakers; true guineas. They took over their piece of the city. Twenty years after an Irishman couldn't get a fucking job, we had the presidency. May he rest in peace. That's what the niggers don't realize. If I got one thing against the black chappies, it's this - no one gives it to you. You have to take it.

Could it happen?

To Satisfy TRN's Man-Crush

If you hadn't noticed, TRN is a devoted groupie of Dback nobody Micah Owings. He must be busy this morning, but I am sure this news will get him all titillated...

Micah Owings' bat could get a little more play next season, and we're not just talking about pinch-hitting appearances. Owings, who last season made 27 starts out of the Diamondbacks' rotation and posted a 4.30 ERA, could find his way onto the field, perhaps at first base. "It's potentially, depending on how our roster looks, an option," manager Bob Melvin said Tuesday during a Q&A session with reporters.

Its not very becoming for a married fatherof two to drool all over another man, but what can you do? He is family. LINK THIS

This happened last evening on McKellips near Dobson. Bank robber fleeing. As you can see, the cops aren't pushing him - I guess he thought he was home free. LINK THIS

Andruw Jones to the Dodgers

Reports are that Andruw Jones has agreed to a 2-year deal to play centerfield for the Los Angeles Dodgers. LINK THIS. Dodger fandom won't let me say anything other than this is a great signing. One year does not a career make, and for some reason he was crap in 2007. Normally, bats come to Dodger Stadium to die, career 300 hitters sign and next thing you know-they slump themselves right out of baseball. Something tells me that Jones, one of the best young players in the history of the game, is aiming to put up monster numbers for 2 years in search of a 5 or 6 year mega-contract. Next step? Two moves would make the Dodgers favorites to win the NL. First, trade for Scott Rolen. His value is low, and I suspect he can be had for two top-tier minor leaguers. As always, you try to throw Juan Pierre in on any deal you make. His signing was a disaster, and you have to get rid of him somehow. Next, you sign that Japanee pitcher everybody is after. Give Kuroda 10 mill a year and see if he can get you 10-12 wins as your fifth starter. See! Its so simple!

FEEDBACK?

The new poster for the upcoming Batman flick was released yesterday. What are your thoughts? I hate to admit, but this is the first disappointment I have had with the early buzz for the film. I think Ledger will do a good job, but there is something almost sophmoric and predictable about this poster. Cillian Murphy handled the villian duties admirably in Chris Nolan's first re-imagining, here's to hoping this one doesn't fall victim to laziness.
(When put up against the Sweeney Todd poster, its no comparison) LINK

i guess pimpA and pimpB had a conversation

This just off of breitbart, where everyone should get their news.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Pimp C, one-half of the veteran Houston rap group UGK, was found dead in an upscale hotel on Tuesday.

"It is with great regret that I must confirm that Chad Butler aka Pimp C, one half of the legendary UGK, was in fact discovered dead this morning," his publicist, Nancy Byron, said in a statement.

Pimp C and partner Bun B were pioneers of Southern rap, and hit the mainstream with their cameo on Jay-Z's hit "Big Pimpin'."

Just To Piss Off FritoP.

Wah wah wah... Hey buddy, just cuz people don't comment on your post doesn't mean they don't read and enjoy them. Do me favor and put some creme on that tender rear-end of yours.

So everybody comment on this super awesome picture of a stoic rider of the high-desert... If he gets more comments on his previous post, I am gonna go ape-crazy.

FritoP's News Roundup

Since I ain't be gettin' no comments on my posts I am just going to do a mega post, with all the news i have gathered over the last few days. (don't worry it won't be too long) and i won't put any pictures because the sundancing indian didn't get no comments. So here wee go

1.COX OUT ON TOUR - to promote his new movie the most super talented Sir Dewey Cox (you didn't know he was knighted) will be playing select shows throughout this great country of ours in select cities of course. And for those of you who live in Arizona you are not included in those select cities. LINK

2. THIS GUY IS EVERYWHERE- the man who wants to bring us TV a la carte, and promote a greater and more open mass media is being accuse of abusing his power. FCC chairman abusing his power and not censoring anything, that should be a good thing. The irony of all this is that democrats are behind the congressional investigation. Funny but I feel that "Chairman Martin" (as he prefers to be called at FCC headquarters) represents me more than Congress or the consumer groups and media companies who are calling for his head. In fact have the Democrats , consumer groups or media companies ever represented me well. NO. LINK

3. AGAIN I AM THE FIRST TO POST THIS - tom petty plays the super bowl, now i am pretty sure that all of the writers on this site are fans of petty, fans of the super bowl. And also in case you retards didn't know it takes place in Arizona. (by the way in other slightly related music news, Garth brooks sold out 5 consecutive nights at the Staples Center in one hour, amazing). Prince will probably be the best ever Half Time show but a little good ol rockin never hurt no one. link

4. KATTAN BLANK MOVIE. thank goodness the WB CW sucks because the turned down a potentially hit show that I never would have watched and more than likely would have been toned down for the crappy network. Amy Sedaris, Chris Kattan are starring in an indie film that was formerly a tv pilot that got dumped. THe film is written and direted by the daughter of Diane Von Furstenburg (fashion designer) and Barbara Bach (hello!!!!!) and step-father Ringo.
Oh yeah it is about boarding school girls, but who cares with coked out queero KATTAN and Jerri you got a winner LINK

5. JAY ONLY PAYS A WEEKS SALARY. after my post earlier this week, and all it gets him to do is pay one weeks salary, 2009 can't come soon enough LINK

6. OSCAR WATCHING. leading oscar watcher David Poland put in his 50 cents worth on the film ATONEMENT. It doesn't look good for Focus Features, but then again apparently someone got the balls to compare it to DR. ZHIVAGO. Whoever made that comparison should be fired. Anyways this is good news for the Coens and PTA because I was worried that this drama might push them all down a notch, hey we might even see ole JESSE JAMES show up but unfortunately it means we will see that Sean Penn lack of responsibility film INTO THE WILD get some more credit, by the way he dies at the end. LINK

Six is enough, there is lots of stuff to comment about, it is very easy to comment if you don't have a google or a blogger account you can quickly register for one and then procede to comment. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO READ MY POSTS IF YOU DO NOT COMMENT ON THEM!!!!!

D-backs season tickets just got cheaper

Something has definitely changed at the Arizona Diamondbacks head office. First after all negotiation had broken off, the D-backs contaced Eric Byrnes agent and signed a contract extension just prior to their playoff run. The deal really didnt have to happen. The D-backs said all year they were rebuilding and there is no need to have a high priced left fielder when you have so much minor league out-field talent. But the public started an outcry and D-backs gave them what they wanted.

Second, they started to ramp up post game amusement for ticket holders. Including, firework shows, movie night on the field (which they are going to spice up this next year with one of the biggest big sceen monitors in the MLB).

Third, now they just cut the cost of season tickets across the board (some by 50%). After the year they had in 07, you could make the argument that an increase in ticket prices would be justified but this is certainly a move into getting fans out to the games and posting some big numbers for Chase attendance.

As a bonus, Carlos Quentin (hard hitting right fielder) is going to be traded to the White Sox for minor league first baseman Chris Carter (who played for Tucson for a while, so they know what they are getting). Which means two things, the outfield issue has pretty much been figured out (Upton will be starting in right), and Connor Jackson's days are numbered. Trading a playing major leaguer for a minor league player straight up means the minor leaguer is going to see some playing time.

I am extremely impressed with the about face that the organization has seen. Now if I could only get them to listen to my Burrito Bandito idea.

Plus there is nothing like talking baseball in the middle of football season... it drives meatheads crazy.

Romney to make speech on Mormonhood

I dont think this blog has officially endorsed any candidate (and believe me there have been numerous requests) but this is going to be big and spawn a weeklong discussion on the tenants of Mormonism (Hitchens is going to have a field day, of course he might have gotten alot of it out of his system last week).

Politico has the details and you can read it here but the teaser is below.

"Mitt Romney will take to the Bush Library in College Station, Texas, on Thursday to give a long-anticipated, much-debated speech about his Mormon faith and the role of religion in American public life"
